Paula Malcomson in Prime Suspect tomorrow, general updates & new interviews with Leah Gibson, Jane Espenson, Scott Porter and Eric Stoltz

A bunch of updates and previews today. Let's start with the last minute catch.

Paula Malcomson will make an appearance in Prime Suspect, episode 1x02, "Carnivorous Sheep," which airs tomorrow (Thursday) at 10 pm on NBC. She will play a character called Noelle Tanner. The teaser is embedded below.

We Have Your Husband, the Lifetime film with Esai Morales, has been licensed to several European broadcasters. From the Virtual Press Office:

American Jayne Valseca (Teri Polo), her husband Eduardo (Esai Morales) and their two children live an idyllic life on their 1,000 acre ranch outside of a peaceful Mexico town. But one morning Eduardo is kidnapped and Jayne is left behind to pick up the pieces, throwing her into a living nightmare in which she is pushed to the limit to do everything possible to raise the ransom money necessary to bring Eduardo back alive. Pulp Fiction is finally getting a region 1 Blu-ray release next week. Movieweb.com has a featurette from the Blu-ray with a relatively recent interview with Eric Stoltz:



Times Colonist has a great interview with Leah Gibson, with tons of info about her new projects, including The New Girl, Arctic Air and a production of Rick Robinson's Asymmetry, which opens next month in Vancouver. Here is a snippet about American Mary:

The film, which Gibson calls "a dark, twisted, grimy, gritty thriller," stars Katherine Isabelle (Ginger Snaps) as a disillusioned medical student who ventures into the dark underground world of plastic surgery.

"They're these incredibly talented, fiercely ambitious twin sisters who have a real vision and do everything they say they'll do," said Gibson, who gets to showcase her dancing abilities.

"My character represents a celebration of choice and living her idealized image until she gets to the place where her physical embodiment is, to her, a true reflection of who she thought she was born from the inside, but never able to express."

Zap2it has a new interview with Scott Porter and his Hart of Dixie co-star Jaime King. Snippet:

Though both actors hail from Nebraska, they feel a connection and a responsibility to the South.

"I can understand why people have those concerns, because often Hollywood takes things that are from the South or from the Midwest and they roll it into the dirt," King says. "For me, being from Nebraska, from a small town, it's totally the way that I grew up. I'm not going to make fun of the way that I was raised. I was bullied my whole life. I don't mock people, and I wouldn't be doing this show unless it truly honored something."

"There was a lady in the panel today who said there's a narrowmindedness in the South," Porter says. "No, there's not a narrowmindedness in the South any more than there's a narrowmindedness here. They have different traditions. You don't think you deal with racism out here in Los Angeles or in New York? You don't think that there's race barriers? To attack the South like that - we're going to do everything in our power to see that people understand the good in the South."

IamRogue.com talked to Jane Espenson.

Anything coming up on the season of Husbands we should be especially looking forward to? Are there plans for future seasons?
Espenson: Oh yes. As I'm writing this, episode five is prepping to go up. 5, 6 and 7 are very funny episodes with lots of Alessandra (played by Alessandra Torresani from Caprica) Eps 8-11 allow a little more heart to creep into the story. The investment the viewers are making in the couple that is Cheeks and Brady pays off as the episodes get deeper. It's still funny, but I think people will enjoy seeing things get more and more grounded.

Jane, you have an impressive list of television credits to your name, in the role of script writer and/or co-executive producer. What three moments spring to mind, as being ultimate career highlights, over your years working in these roles?
Ooh, three moments. The first would have to be when I got a phone call from a woman named Lolita Fatjo who worked at Star Trek: The Next Generation, telling me that they liked my spec script and I was being invited in to pitch episode ideas. I was still in grad school in Berkeley, and this was my first step into being a professional writer. It doesn't technically fall under the perimeters of your question, but it was absolutely a career highlight. The second would have to be when Joss came to me to tell me that he liked the script for a Buffy episode that I wrote called Earshot. This was the script that cemented my position on the staff at Buffy and got my contract renewed for a second season (of what turned out to be five seasons total). It's amazing to get hired on your dream show, but you don't really know you've made it until you feel like you've delivered on your promise. The third might be... I guess it might be sitting on the set of Husbands, my web series. I feel like I had a big revelation there. I had never really embraced production as part of the writing process before. I always thought of all the changes that happen during production and post-production as changes to correct previously unnoticed deficits in the script, but now I see that's like saying the script exists to fix the outline. It's just the next step in one big creative process. I don't know why it took me so long to learn it, but that was huge.
