DARYN: So, what is your role on Husbands?She is also on the new Geekscape podcast, talking about Husbands, Caprica, Warehouse 13, Playback, working on CSI and Bones, and her upcoming projects, which include an episode of one of her favourite shows and a film cameo. No details yet, but both projects sound pretty interesting. It's a great interview and the guys who did it are huge Caprica fans, so go listen.
ALESSANDRA: Let me tell you a little bit about this fabulous show! I play the larger than life, crazy, fun, silly, old school comedian Haley! She is Cheeks’ BFF for life and can’t live without him. She is beyond co-dependent of him and literally can’t pick out a pair of shoes without his approval. Although at times she’s a little too nuts, it’s all in good fun! And hey, just another excuse for a cocktail. She’s traumatized that Cheeks didn’t have her at the wedding, because of course it’s all about her! She has to adjust to this new world in which she must share Cheeks with Brady, ugh… just some dumb athlete with a pretty face! Just kidding!

NA: Turning for a moment to Caprica, what was the experience like as a young actress being with such amazing actors?Meanwhile, Jane Espenson talked to Televisual. Snippet:
AT: It was such a family environment. Paula [Malcomson, Amanda Greystone] is like my pseudo-mother. I still talk to her every single day. Sasha Roiz is my best friend, do you know what I mean? It’s a funny dynamic we all had together, but we were all on the same level. There were no egos, no “stars” or any of that bullshit you usually deal with. That was the saddest part about Caprica.
AT: We went and shot this amazing show in Vancouver for a year and a half of our lives. We bonded, cast and crew. Unfortunately, because of ratings it was all taken apart. But everyone moved on and did their own thing: Esai did a successful web series, Eric is directing, Sasha is the star of Grimm, Paula was on Sons of Anarchy and is the new star of Hunger Games. Everyone has made their own mark, so it was a blessing in disguise. Now Jane and I are eating and breathing Husbands, it’s our life.
What makes Husbands different and/or the same from classic sitcoms about married couples — whether I Love Lucy and The Honeymooners or Mad About You and King of Queens?
JE: Well, the idea that it’s about a newlywed couple where both the spouses are men is obviously the biggest difference, but in a way that just highlights how much the rest is the same — a lot of the stories that would be told on Husbands are ones that you could have told on Mad About You. But I also think there’s a very young freshness to the humor and language of Husbands that comes from working with such a young co-writer; Cheeks writes jokes that are informed by knowing his TV history, but also by living in the real world at a very specific time. To talk like we’re on Top Chef, between the two of us, I think we found a very new and specific humor profile.
What are your thoughts on gay representation on television today? What do we need more or less of?
JG: We need less of the gay friend who gives the lead girl advice on her wardrobe, or the gay friend who tells the main guy what shoes to wear on a date, and more of gays and lesbians as lead characters in their own right. And, of course, that’s what we’re doing with Husbands.

[Jane] Espenson says that the show actually originated in comedy routine that Cheeks and Caprica actress Alessandra Torresani developed together, and then turned into a story about what happened when a wedding interrupts that kind of friendship.
"She's a girl who has had it all and has gotten it all, but her one form of validation in life is Cheeks," says Torresani says of her character, Haley. "Before she goes out of the house, she needs to know, 'Does he think I look good?' That he goes, without her really knowing, that he gets married...She's like, 'I don't understand...he's awful, he's not funny.'...At this point, Cheeks definitely does not need Haley at much. But still at the end of the day, he would never give her up."

Cherry, a comedy Esai Morales made a couple of years ago, has finally been released on DVD on August 30. It's available on Amazon.

Ten Year with Scott Porter and The Odds with Calum Worthy will both have their first screenings at the Toronto Film Festival tonight.
Fox has released the synopsis for Fringe 4x02, "One Night in October," with John Pyper-Ferguson, which airs on Friday, September 30 at 9 pm:
As the victims of a highly intelligent serial killer "Over There" stack up, the Fringe Division "Over Here" is asked to assist. As the two sides tangle and innocent people remain at risk, the suspect's doppelganger "Over Here," a professor who teaches Forensic Psychology, is brought into the fold and forces the team to consider the notion of sending civilians to the other side.Drive was screened at TIFF on Saturday and Sunday (video report) and opens in theatres this weekend.
Ben Cotton will guest star in two new shows, The Secret Circle and Alcatraz. No word yet on exact episodes and air dates. The Secret Circle premieres this Thursday (Sept. 15) at 9 pm on the CW and Alcatraz doesn't have a date set yet, but is expected to premiere at mid-season.
The trailer for Ben's new film, Doppelgänger Paul, which is also getting screened at TIFF tonight, has been released this week. You can watch it at TwitchFilm.com.
