Weekend monster update: previews, cast news, and interviews with Jane Espenson, Magda Apanowicz and Kacey Rohl

Okay, let's start with what's on TV tonight.

Tonight's episode of Once Upon a Time (8 pm, ABC) was written by Jane Espenson. The synopsis and a bunch of clips are posted below.

Nerdist has finally posted the Writers Panel podcast with Jane and Douglas Petrie, recorded in late March. Details:
Jane Espenson (Once Upon a Time; Husbands; Buffy; Caprica) and Douglas Petrie (Charlie’s Angels; Buffy; Pushing Daisies) return to the studio to revisit Jane’s old blog, janeespenson.com, and discuss how, while the business may have changed since she was regularly updating it, writing has not.
You can listen to the podcast on Nerdist.com.

Once Upon a Time: The Complete First Season will be released on DVD and Blu-ray on August 28. You can pre-order them on Amazon: DVD, Blu-ray. Special features include audio commentaries, deleted scenes, bloopers and the featurettes "Fairy Tales in the Modern World," "Tell Me a Story," "Building Character," and "Noble Creatures."

Patton Oswalt voices the food critic on tonight's Bob's Burgers (8:30 pm, Fox).
When the restaurant receives a bad review from a food critic, the Belchers fear that the negative press will keep customers away. When Bob shows up at the critic’s house for a redo, his plan quickly spirals out of control when the kids and his fellow restaurant owners show up to support him in the all-new “Moody Foodie” episode of BOB’S BURGERS airing Sunday, May 6 (8:30-9:00 PM ET/PT) on FOX.
A new episode of The Killing airs at 9 pm on AMC.

And one for BSG fans: Tahmoh Penikett guest stars in the season finale of Castle tomorrow (10 pm, ABC). Teaser.

Elsewhere, a couple of new interviews with Magda Apanowicz showed up at WTNH and NorwichBulletin.com. Both were done on the set of her new movie, Dead Souls, and both come with clips. Based on the second one, the film is expected to hit theatres in October. Snippets:
The film’s lead actress, Magda Apanowicz (“Kyle XY,” “Caprica”), said she found her inspiration in the character she portrays.
“I really liked the character. I was very drawn to Emma,” Apanowicz said. “I like that Emma tries to lie about everything and hide a lot of stuff, and I like that (James’ character) kind of brings out the truth in her where she starts to trust somebody.”

"I love doing spooky, weird things, and I love sci fi," said Magda Apanowicz.

Apanowicz plays Emma, his mysterious confident.

"When I found out this was being shot in Connecticut I'm like yes," said Apanowicz. "Oh my gosh and it's so eerie, and it's so fun driving these roads to set."

"Connecticut has everything you ever need for movies," said Andrew Gernhard, Synthetic Cinema International. "The locations are great, the people are great."

It looks like Magda wasn't the only Caprica actor in Syfy's The 12 Disasters of Christmas. According to the IMDB, Andrew Airlie is in it, too.

And add James Pizzinato to the list of actors appearing in Continuum. He will guest star in episode 1x09, "Family Time," which airs on May 14.

Just in case you've missed it everywhere else last week: TV Guide broke the news that Netflix is considering picking up Jericho for another season. The show has been off the air since 2008. Esai Morales had a recurring role in season two, so fingers crossed.

Esai has posted a few photos from the screening of Girl in Progress (fka Ansiedad), starring Eva Mendes, on his FB page. You can find a couple more on Zimbio. The film opens on May 11. Esai is not in it, but both Kendall Cross and Richard Harmon have supporting roles. Here is the trailer:

Broadway World has a bunch of stills from Meg Tilly's new play The Real World?, which opened at Toronto's Tarragon Theatre last week.

Aleks Paunovic tweets that he has wrapped shooting Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters. He plays Cyclops in the film. Here is the synopsis:
In this retelling of Rick Riordans book "The Sea of Monsters" Percy Jackson, accompanied by his friends Annabeth Chase, Clarisse La Rue and Tyson, his half brother, goes on a journey in the Sea of Monsters to retrieve the legendary Golden Fleece and save Camp Half-Blood.
Here is the "Vampyr Tease" for season five of True Blood, with Christopher Heyerdahl and Chris Meloni:

A few clips from the Sanctuary panel at the Calgary Comic Expo, with Christopher, Ryan Robbins and Amanda Tapping, showed up on YouTube this week. The show still hasn't been picked up for a fifth season. For a detailed update on what has been going on, watch the first few minutes:

You can see the rest of the panel on the Antipodal blog.

Kidz World has a new interview with Kacey Rohl:
KW: What was your favorite part of filming Flicka: Country Pride?
Kacey: My favorite part was that I got to ride everyday and my favorite scene, I like the dance scene, I got to just hang out all day which was sweet, and I get to run! I get to run away when she pushes me into the cake!

KW: How do you relate to your character in Flicka?
Kacey: I definitely beat myself up sometimes for things that aren’t really my fault, I’ve been really blessed to not have anything quite as tragic as what happened to her happen to me, I definitely take on things that aren’t my thing. I deal with things by dancing or running and doing something physical and she rides.
Born to Race producers tweeted this week that the film will be getting a sequel. No word yet if they'll be making it with the same cast. They have also posted a couple of deleted scenes from the film, both with John Pyper-Ferguson. The first one is embedded below and you can see the other one on their FB page.

Last not least, the press release and clips from tonight's Once Upon a Time:
"An Apple Red as Blood" - Henry pleads with Emma to stay in Storybrooke and continue her quest as the savior of the fairytale dwellers, and Regina concocts a plan that could rid her of Emma forever. That's my Sanctuary video! It's famous! I suppose that's why it's gotten so many hits. :) There are two more parts on YouTube, so make sure you check them out - they don't contain vital info but they're fun.
