Esai Morales in Fairly Legal, Husbands & Grimm get second seasons, The Hunger Games premiere, and more updates

It's been a while since the last proper news roundup, so some of the news today won't be all that new. Posting it anyway in case anyone missed it elsewhere.

Fairly Legal is back tonight at 9 pm on USA. Esai Morales guest stars in the season premiere and will be appearing in several more episodes. Other BSG and Caprica folks appearing on the show this season include Michael Hogan, Ben Cotton and Zak Santiago. And yeah, Michael Trucco is still a regular.

The Voice of TV has some recent BTS pics, and Buddy TV talked to Esai (more at the link):
What do we need to know about Esai Morales' character?
Esai Morales: I'm playing Aaron Davidson, thank you. No hablo espanol in this show... I am a politician, District Attorney. I am, I guess, a bit of a quintessential slimeball. Sleazebag is how I've been described, which is kind of interesting. I think [Davidson]'s wonderful. I think he's in the right most of the time, because you got to play people like that. I think he's a realist. You know what I mean? I call him sleazy, because I think either "slimeball" or "sleazy" is what Michael [Trucco]'s character called me yesterday.

Playback released on demand, Grimm preview, interviews with Anna Galvin, Patton Oswalt, Aleks Paunovic and James Marsters

The Friday round of updates:

A new episode of Grimm, with Sasha Roiz, airs tonight at 9 pm. Here is the synopsis:
As Portland's homeless youth start to go missing, Nick uncovers a deadly black market supplying the Grimm world with human organs for all types of elixirs. As the investigation heightens, Nick and Juliette befriend a pair of homeless siblings, Hanson (guest star Daryl Sabara, "Spy Kids") and Gracie (guest star Hannah Marks, "Necessary Roughness"), whose friends have gone missing.
Valerie Cruz from Alphas and The Dresden Files also guest stars.

Starting next week, NBC will be airing Grimm reruns on Thursdays at 10 until March, and The Firm is moving to Saturdays.

10,000 Days launched, new interview with Aleks Paunovic, and new projects for Magda Apanowicz, Anna Galvin, Hiro Kanagawa, James Marsters, Richard Harmon and James Pizzinato

First, a reminder that the last two episodes of Prime Suspect air tonight at 9 pm on NBC.

And a bunch of cast news:

Esai Morales has been nominated for a NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Actor in a Television Movie, Mini-Series or Dramatic Special for his work in We Have Your Husband. Big congrats!

And also congrats to the Gun Hill Road team on the nomination for a GLAAD Media Award for Outstanding Film (Limited Release). Still no DVD release date for GHR.

Not sure if I mentioned it, but Eric Stoltz directed an episode of Californication last year. The episode now has a title and an air date: "Love Song," February 12. Spoiler TV has the synopsis.

Magda Apanowicz has a new credit on the IMDb. She will make an appearance in episode 1x06 of Holliston, the first original series from the FEARnet cable channel. The show is a horror sitcom, it premieres in April, and Magda will be playing "Goblin." Her episode is called "Weekend of Horrors."

The Chuck two-hour series finale airs this Friday, so Grimm is taking a break. Here are a couple of photos of Sasha Roiz in episode 1x10, "Organ Grinder," which airs in two weeks:

Three Inches with James Marsters and Stephanie Jacobsen airs tonight (9 pm, Syfy)

Three Inches, the Syfy pilot with James Marsters and Stephanie Jacobsen that didn't get ordered to series, airs tonight at 9 pm ET on Syfy.

To recap, the network ordered the 90-minute pilot back in the spring of 2010. It was filmed in September in Toronto and, in December, Syfy decided to pick up Alphas instead, and to tweak Three Inches into a half-hour because the two were conceptually similar.

Six months went by with no news, and then in July word came from James' FB page that Syfy would not be giving Three Inches a full season, but that the pilot would air eventually. Well, that's tonight.

Here is the synopsis, from ScienceFiction.com:
In Three Inches, professional daydreamer and underachiever, Walter Spackman (Noah Reid) is struck by lightning, and develops a unique “super” power — the ability to move any object using just his mind… but only a distance of three inches. He’s soon recruited by a covert team of superheroes each gifted with their own extraordinarily ordinary abilities. Together, the unlikely band of heroes proves that “super” is simply a state of mind.

Alessandra Torresani on American Horror Story tonight, new interviews with James Marsters, Scott Porter & Christopher Heyerdahl

Okay, for real this time:

Alessandra Torresani guest stars on American Horror Story tonight at 10 pm on FX. Here is the synopsis for both Halloween episodes, from THR:
In Part 1, Vivien (Connie Britton) and Ben Harmon (Dylan McDermott) met the house's previous tenants, a gay couple (played by Zachary Quinto and Teddy Sears) obsessed with decorating the home just right for Halloween so the Harmons can unload the property.

In addition, Tate (Evan Peters) and Violet (Taissa Farmiga) inch closer when the couple takes advantage of the old Halloween loophole that all the ghosts come out to walk the streets for the night as they hit the beach for their first official date.
Alessandra plays Steph, one of the unwelcome visitors on that date. For previews, go to Sci Fi Mafia.

Ryan Robbins tweets that one of his recent films, Marilyn, will premiere at the Whistler Film Festival, which runs from November 30 to December 4.

For production stills and more details about the film, visit the official site at MarilyntheMovie.net. Here is some info from the press release (PDF link):

Grimm update, James Marsters' Wizard World Q&A and a new interview with Jane Espenson

Just a few updates today, but they're fun.

Grimm premiered to surprisingly strong ratings last night (6.5 million viewers, 2.1 million in the 18-49 demo), or as NBC puts it in the press release, the "largest non-sports 18-49 audience on the night by any network since last year's "New Year's Rockin' Eve" on ABC (2.8 rating)."

What makes this news particularly great is that the show aired opposite the most watched baseball game in the last seven years, and after one of the lowest rated episodes of Chuck ever (the show hit a series low in the key demo, according to TV by the Numbers).

NBC is re-airing the Grimm pilot tonight at 9 pm and the episode will also be shown on Syfy this Tuesday at 7 pm.

Here is the synopsis for next Friday's episode, "Bears Will Be Bears:"
A barbaric family history is revealed when Nick and Hank investigate a case of breaking and entering. Meanwhile, Nick assigns Eddy to look after Aunt Marie.
And a new teaser for the upcoming episodes, with Sasha Roiz:

Saturday, 22 October 2011

On TV tonight: James Marsters in Supernatural, Brian Markinson in Sanctuary, Scott Porter in X-Men Anime

Reminder:

Three Caprica actors are on TV tonight.

James Marsters guest stars in Supernatural in episode "Shut up, Dr. Phil," at 9 pm on the CW. Brian Markinson makes his first appearance on Sanctuary this season at 10 pm on Syfy, and the X-Men Anime series with Scott Porter premieres at 11 pm on G4.

A longer round of updates is coming tomorrow, but before I get to the previews for tonight's shows, just a heads-up:

You can now watch the complete Husbands web series at HusbandstheSeries.com. The last episode was posted on Thursday.

The Once Upon a Time pilot is available online on IMDB.com. The episode airs this Sunday at 8 pm on ABC.

NBC has released a 20-minute preview of the Grimm pilot, which was also originally supposed to air tonight, but got pushed back to next Friday. If you are in the US, you can watch the whole episode by following @NBCGrimm on Twitter and claiming the screening code.

^ Both pilots are frakkin' gorgeous.

Moving on to tonight's shows.

Patton Oswalt on Raising Hope & new interviews with Richard Harmon, Esai Morales and Scott Porter

Just a very quick round of updates today.

Patton Oswalt tweeted earlier that he is filming an episode of Raising Hope. No details or air date yet, but you can follow him on Twitter for updates. The show airs Tuesdays at 9:30 on Fox.

Fenuxe.com has a new interview with Richard Harmon and his Judas Kiss co-star Sean Paul Lockhart. Snippet:
Richard, give us a quick rundown of what Judas Kiss is all about.
RICHARD: It revolves around Zachary Wells who is a washed up filmmaker in Hollywood who never made anything of the talent he had. And he was very talented, he squandered his possibilities. It’s a chance to redo the mistakes he made in his life and he gets the opportunity to go back and convince the younger version of himself to take things more seriously and think things through a little bit more.

FENUXE: What characters do you guys play in the movie?
RICHARD: I play the cocky young film student that he sees himself in my character, for good reasons. He tries to help me, but I feel like I am doing everything right. In my mind I don’t need his help in anything.

TV Guide has the first photo of James Marsters and Charisma Carpenter in Supernatural 7x05, "Shut Up, Dr. Phil" (Oct. 21, CW).

A Night for Dying Tigers with Leah Gibson and John Pyper-Ferguson is finally available on Netflix in the U.S.

Episode seven of Husbands, with Alessandra Torresani, was posted earlier today:

New interviews with Alessandra Torresani, new Husbands clips, James Marsters in Hawaii Five-0 and Toronto screenings

Let's start with Husbands. The show premieres tomorrow at HusbandstheSeries.com.

Teresa Jusino has a report from the L.A. screening and Q&A yesterday at Tor.com, and several really great interviews with Alessandra Torresani and Jane Espenson showed up since yesterday.

Alessandra talked to Digital Chick TV:
DARYN: So, what is your role on Husbands?
ALESSANDRA: Let me tell you a little bit about this fabulous show! I play the larger than life, crazy, fun, silly, old school comedian Haley! She is Cheeks’ BFF for life and can’t live without him. She is beyond co-dependent of him and literally can’t pick out a pair of shoes without his approval. Although at times she’s a little too nuts, it’s all in good fun! And hey, just another excuse for a cocktail. She’s traumatized that Cheeks didn’t have her at the wedding, because of course it’s all about her! She has to adjust to this new world in which she must share Cheeks with Brady, ugh… just some dumb athlete with a pretty face! Just kidding!
She is also on the new Geekscape podcast, talking about Husbands, Caprica, Warehouse 13, Playback, working on CSI and Bones, and her upcoming projects, which include an episode of one of her favourite shows and a film cameo. No details yet, but both projects sound pretty interesting. It's a great interview and the guys who did it are huge Caprica fans, so go listen.

If you would like to submit a video, you first need to get in touch with BoL and say so by February 11, and then send the clip by February 20. Details at Beginning of Line.

Week five of Caprica auctions started today. You can see the new items on Ebay, as usual.

Esai Morales has confirmed that he will attend CineFestival in San Antonio (Feb. 3-6). If you're in the area, tickets are available here.

Eric Stoltz was one of the presenters at the Valley Performing Arts Center on Saturday. There is a short clip from the event on CSU's Yfrog account. The Fox February schedule confirms that Eric's next episode of Glee will air on February 22:

Tuesday, Feb. 22
GLEE (8:00-9:01 PM ET/PT) – "Blame It on the Alcohol"
Principal Figgins (guest star Iqbal Theba) teaches the student body about the danger of underage drinking, and the glee club is personally touched by the message. Meanwhile, Mr. Schuester (Matthew Morrison) and Coach Beiste (guest star Dot-Marie Jones) indulge in a little fun of their own.

And his episode of Off the Map, "On the Mean Streets of San Miguel," airs this Wednesday (Feb. 2) at 10 pm on ABC. Spoiler TV has the teaser. Ed Begley Jr. from the original Battlestar (and just about every other show in existence) guest stars.

Final reminder that Alessandra Torresani is one of the judges on RuPaul's Drag Race tonight at 10 pm on Logo. She also wrote an article for The Printed Blog that is available here (scroll down to page 7).

Here is the teaser for the Drag Race (there is another one on Jim Halterman's blog) -- more updates below:

Riese: Kingdom Falling, with Ryan Robbins, Leah Gibson, Alessandro Juliani, and Ben Cotton, will premiere in Canada on March 7. Spacecast writes:

For those who want to see it all again, RIESE: KINGDOM FALLING airs in its entirety following the season finale of MERLIN on Saturday, April 9 at 9 p.m. ET, exclusively on SPACE.

The Province talked to Ben Cotton about Blood & Chrome. Here is a snippet:

Cotton read for several roles, but the one that stuck with him was one of the two lead roles in the new show, an officer who bonds with the young fighter pilot.

“I realized at about Christmas time that I was still thinking about this guy, this character,” he says. “Usually, even when I like a role, I audition, I walk out of the room and it’s gone, unless I need to do the job. But I found this guy was really intriguing. Something just stuck with me, it made me pick up different books to explore the psychology of the thing.”

Last minute update: Battlestarwiki tweets that Mike Dopud will also be in Blood & Chrome, but no word yet on what character he will play.

Ben Cotton will be back on Hellcats tomorrow (Tuesday) at 9 pm on the CW. So will Teryl Rothery, Aaron Douglas and (maybe) Ryan Kennedy. Daemon's TV has the press release and photos. Here is the teaser, with Teryl Rothery:

New video blog and previews for Caprica 1x11, "Retribution"

Syfy has posted five new clips on the official site. One is a scene from last night episode, "Unvanquished," with Eric Stoltz, Esai Morales and Sasha Roiz. The second is a video blog called "Caprican Evolution." In it, Caprica writers and producers David Eick, Jane Espenson, Clara George, Michael Taylor, Ron Moore and visual effects supervisor Gary Hutzel discuss the worldbuilding aspects of the show (with special emphasis on Tauron culture) and working with the U-87. The next two clips are sneak peeks from episode 1x11, "Retribution," both involving Lacy (Magda Apanowicz) and her dealings with the STO. From the looks of it, Barnabas (James Marsters) will be back in next week's episode. The last clip is the teaser for "Retribution." The clips are embedded below.

The podcast for "Unvanquished," with David Eick, Eric Stoltz and Tom Lieber, has been posted. You can find it here, as usual.

Alessandra Torresani was on Attack of the Show yesterday. You can see the clip here.

Bear McCreary has a new post up about the music in "Unvanquished." You can read it here: Caprica: Season 1.5.

Patton Oswalt confirmed that he will make an appearance on Community tomorrow (Thursday, Oct. 7 at 8 pm on NBC) and said that his episode of Bored to Death airs this Sunday (Oct. 10 at 10 on HBO).

Cast updates: Eric Stoltz, Teryl Rothery, James Marsters, Hiro Kanagawa, Jorge Montesi

With the new TV season kicking into full gear this week, below is an updated list of cast members and shows to keep an eye on in September and October. You may have caught some of these updates on Twitter earlier this week.

Eric Stoltz has definitely directed an episode of Glee this season. The title, "Duets," has yet to be confirmed, but Glee's Kevin McHale and Jenna Ushkowitz told Access Hollywood that it was episode 2x04. The show returns tomorrow (Tuesday, Sept. 21) and, unless there are any breaks in the schedule, the episode should air on October 12 at 8 PM on Fox.

Teryl Rothery made her first appearance on Hellcats last week and, like Battlestar's Aaron Douglas, will have a recurring role on the show. Other than the showrunner (Kevin Murphy) and another recurring guest star (Ryan Kennedy), Hellcats is also borrowing Caprica's cinematographer, Stephen McNutt, this season. Hellcats airs Wednesdays at 9 on the CW network.

Hiro Kanagawa will guest star on Fringe, episode 3x02, "The Box," which will air on September 30 at 10 on Fox. Yes, that's directly opposite CSI: Crime Scene Investigation 11x02, "Pool Shark," with Sasha Roiz.

James Marsters will appear in the Hawaii Five-0 series opener (with Grace Park) tonight at 10 on CBS. After that, he'll appear in Caprica 1x10 (still October 5 at 10 PM) and then in Smallville 10x04, "Homecoming," which airs on October 15 on the CW. In the meantime, he is still shooting the pilot for Three Inches which, according to Mark Stern, likely won't be greenlit to series until next year.

Jorge Montesi, who will be back as the Guatrau in a few more episodes this season, will appear in Human Target, episode 2x04, which will air some time in late October or early November. Season two premieres on Friday, October 1, at 8 on Fox. According to the show's official Twitter, Tahmoh Penikett will guest star in the season premiere.

And this just in: Aleks Paunovic will appear in an upcoming episode of Supernatural according to his Facebook page. No word on the exact date yet, so keep an eye on grandpa Adama on Twitter.

Also worth repeating: Paula Malcomson is a regular on Sons of Anarchy (FX) this season and Scott Porter is a new addition to The Good Wife (CBS), which returns for a second season tomorrow. Both shows air Tuesdays at 10.

Renewal/cancellation update & James Marsters Q&A (Phoenix Comic Con)

Michael Hinman over at Airlock Alpha has an article that addresses some of the concerns about the show possibly not getting picked up for another season. No concrete news, but if you are trying to keep a positive outlook, check it out: Caprica's Chances at Renewal? Strong.

Key paragraph contradicts what Craig Engler tweeted the other day about the show not getting picked up before the fall:

And news should be announced later this month both on when "Caprica" will return, and if Syfy is ordering more episodes for a second season. So keep your fingers crossed.

Granted, it's all coming from an anonymous source, so no one's committing to it, but at least there is a possibility that we may hear something in the near future.

As a sidenote, Ron Moore and Esai Morales attended the London MCM Expo this weekend, but there aren't any extensive reports out there yet. An interesting bit of info comes from this blog and isn't really related to Caprica, but to the other Battlestar spinoff, which hasn't been mentioned in a while either:

Ron Moore confirmed that they are discussing several possible further BSG spinoffs with the studios. Apparently there are multiple possible directions they could take, and no one in particular has been favoured over the others so far; consequently he was reluctant to discuss them. We will also see at least Gemenon and potentially more of the Twelve Colonies in Caprica.

Finally, an update that's actually fun (i.e. involves someone on the creative side of things discussing the show itself.) James Marsters did a Q&A at the Phoenix Comic Con yesterday and the podcast & clips are online. You can listen to the podcast here and, for the videos, go to the Multipleverses YouTube channel. James talked about playing Barnabas and his last day on the Caprica set. If you don't already know whether or not Barnabas makes it through the season alive, the first clip with spoil that for you. The second one is spoiler-free.

Synopsis and first clip from the Caprica midseason finale

SyFy has posted a preview clip for episode 1x09, "End of Line," with Polly Walker and James Marsters.

Here is the synopsis:

"Barnabas escalates his war with Clarice and Zoe tries a daring escape."

And a more detailed one:

"Daniel sets a deadline to reset the Cylon, forcing Zoe to find a way to save herself; Barnabas clashes with Clarice, with Lacy caught in the middle; Daniel makes a confession to Amanda."

The clip:
