Aleks Paunovic on Arctic Air, Bomb Girls picked up, Falling Skies update, interviews with Scott Porter & William B. Davis

Aleks Paunovic is back in Arctic Air tonight. It's not the first time that he has appeared on the show, but he will have a more central part in tonight's episode, which airs at 9 pm on CBC in Canada. Other familiar faces will probably show up, too. CBC has a new interview with Aleks. Snippets:

You play Jim McAlister on Arctic Air, what is that guy all about?
Jim is a fun-loving best buddy with a big heart. He's stoked to have Bobby (Adam Beach) back in town. He's a prospector and trusts Bobby to the fullest. He'll do anything to protect his friends, family and the North.

What is it like working on a all Canadian production as opposed to a U.S. production that is being filmed in Canada?
I love home grown projects. Most of the U.S. projects are about situations, not about where they are shooting.

Knowing that we are making a show about our land, and showing it to the people of the land, gives us a warm feeling knowing we are connecting with people that know our culture and country. Plus the cast and crew are amazing! So I love coming into work.

A new episode of Grimm, with Sasha Roiz, airs tonight at 9 pm. Here is the synopsis:

As Portland's homeless youth start to go missing, Nick uncovers a deadly black market supplying the Grimm world with human organs for all types of elixirs. As the investigation heightens, Nick and Juliette befriend a pair of homeless siblings, Hanson (guest star Daryl Sabara, "Spy Kids") and Gracie (guest star Hannah Marks, "Necessary Roughness"), whose friends have gone missing.

Valerie Cruz from Alphas and The Dresden Files also guest stars.

Starting next week, NBC will be airing Grimm reruns on Thursdays at 10 until March, and The Firm is moving to Saturdays.

Esai Morales has been nominated for a NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Actor in a Television Movie, Mini-Series or Dramatic Special for his work in We Have Your Husband. Big congrats!

And also congrats to the Gun Hill Road team on the nomination for a GLAAD Media Award for Outstanding Film (Limited Release). Still no DVD release date for GHR.

Not sure if I mentioned it, but Eric Stoltz directed an episode of Californication last year. The episode now has a title and an air date: "Love Song," February 12. Spoiler TV has the synopsis.

Magda Apanowicz has a new credit on the IMDb. She will make an appearance in episode 1x06 of Holliston, the first original series from the FEARnet cable channel. The show is a horror sitcom, it premieres in April, and Magda will be playing "Goblin." Her episode is called "Weekend of Horrors."

The Chuck two-hour series finale airs this Friday, so Grimm is taking a break. Here are a couple of photos of Sasha Roiz in episode 1x10, "Organ Grinder," which airs in two weeks:

Arctic Air premieres in Canada, new Bomb Girls tonight & new interviews with Meg Tilly

Arctic Air premieres at 9 pm on CBC tonight. A bunch of Caprica and BSG actors are either regulars or recurring guest stars: Carmen Moore, Michael Hogan, Leah Gibson, Kandyse McClure, Brian Markinson and Aleks Paunovic. There might be more of them as the season progresses.

ARCTIC AIR is a one-hour adventure series set in the booming Arctic, about a maverick airline and the unconventional family who runs it.

It's Tuesday, so keep an eye on Beginning of Line. A new episode of Caprica season 2 goes up today.

There are a couple of things to check out on TV tonight. Patton Oswalt is on Conan at 11 pm on TBS, and on Chelsea Lately, also at 11 on E!

Deck the Halls with Luciana Carro and Hiro Kanagawa premieres at 9 pm on TNT. From the press release:

Holiday cheer turns to holiday fear when a private investigator’s father is kidnapped in TNT’s all-new original movie Deck the Halls, starring Kathy Najimy, Scottie Thompson, Jane Alexander, Larry Miller and David Selby. A few updates to start the week.

Jamie Bamber guest stars on House tonight (9 pm, Fox, teaser below) and a new episode of Hart of Dixie with Scott Porter also airs at 9 pm, on the CW.

The Boston Herald has a new interview with Scott. He talks about Hart of Dixie, Friday Night Lights and the possibility of returning to The Good Wife. Snippet:

“Blake was the trickiest character I ever played,” he said.

Any chance Blake could return to stir up trouble?

“The (producers) and I have talked about it,” he said. “If Blake does come back, he’s going to come back in a much different capacity. This time, maybe, he’s the one who needs the help. It’s going to be great to see if he can repair those bridges that he burned. Not just burned, but dropped bombs on.”

Not sure what kind of creature Sasha Roiz plays in Grimm, but NBC will re-air the pilot again on Saturday, November 5. If you're in the US, you can watch the episode on NBC.com/Grimm. You can also catch it tomorrow at 7 pm on Syfy. NBC has posted a bunch of behind-the-scenes photos here (no Sasha). Episode 1x02, "Bears Will Be Bears," airs on Friday at 9 pm.

William B. Davis wrote an autobiography, called Where There's Smoke... Musings of a Cigarette Smoking Man, A Memoir, which will be published in October.

Patton Oswalt will make another appearance in Bored to Death, which returns on October 10 on HBO. No word yet on the exact episode. Patton was the guest on this week's How Was Your Week? podcast. Hit the link to listen to it.

Peter Wingfield will make his next appearance in Sanctuary in the season four opener, "Tempus." Spoiler TV has more promotional stills from the episode.

With the new TV season kicking into full gear this week, below is an updated list of cast members and shows to keep an eye on in September and October. You may have caught some of these updates on Twitter earlier this week.

Eric Stoltz has definitely directed an episode of Glee this season. The title, "Duets," has yet to be confirmed, but Glee's Kevin McHale and Jenna Ushkowitz told Access Hollywood that it was episode 2x04. The show returns tomorrow (Tuesday, Sept. 21) and, unless there are any breaks in the schedule, the episode should air on October 12 at 8 PM on Fox.

Teryl Rothery made her first appearance on Hellcats last week and, like Battlestar's Aaron Douglas, will have a recurring role on the show. Other than the showrunner (Kevin Murphy) and another recurring guest star (Ryan Kennedy), Hellcats is also borrowing Caprica's cinematographer, Stephen McNutt, this season. Hellcats airs Wednesdays at 9 on the CW network.  

Hiro Kanagawa will guest star on Fringe, episode 3x02, "The Box," which will air on September 30 at 10 on Fox. Yes, that's directly opposite CSI: Crime Scene Investigation 11x02, "Pool Shark," with Sasha Roiz.

James Marsters will appear in the Hawaii Five-0 series opener (with Grace Park) tonight at 10 on CBS. After that, he'll appear in Caprica 1x10 (still October 5 at 10 PM) and then in Smallville 10x04, "Homecoming," which airs on October 15 on the CW. In the meantime, he is still shooting the pilot for Three Inches which, according to Mark Stern, likely won't be greenlit to series until next year.

Jorge Montesi, who will be back as the Guatrau in a few more episodes this season, will appear in Human Target, episode 2x04, which will air some time in late October or early November. Season two premieres on Friday, October 1, at 8 on Fox. According to the show's official Twitter, Tahmoh Penikett will guest star in the season premiere.

And this just in: Aleks Paunovic will appear in an upcoming episode of Supernatural according to his Facebook page. No word on the exact date yet, so keep an eye on grandpa Adama on Twitter. 

Also worth repeating: Paula Malcomson is a regular on Sons of Anarchy (FX) this season and Scott Porter is a new addition to The Good Wife (CBS), which returns for a second season tomorrow. Both shows air Tuesdays at 10.

Cast interviews: Aleks Paunovic and Scott Porter

Two new interviews today. Aleks Paunovic, who will appear as William Adama (Joseph and Sam's dad) later in the season, talked to Vancouver Observer about working on Battlestar, the short film he has done with Tahmoh Penikett, and Caprica.

WD: What do you have coming out that we can look for?
AP: Guido Superstar, which is a Silvio Pollio film. John Cassini is one of the producers. Michael Eklund and I popped in for some funny cameos which we had a great time doing. Caprica, which is a spin off series from Battlestar Galactica, where I got a fantastic role of the grandfather, the leader of the resistance of the Adama family.

I have so much respect for that franchise. Tahmoh was one of the leads in the Battlestar franchise. To be a part of that family and to hang out with them, Mary McDonnell, and Edward James Olmos the academy award winning actor, and to fit into it within Caprica with Esai Morales. I'm grateful, very grateful for it.-- Vancouver Observer

CinemaSpy: Let’s talk about Caprica. Although ostensibly about the invention of a race of robots, Caprica is really a drama about a booming civilization on the brink of crisis. What attracted you to the role of Nestor?

Scott Porter: It was the general and overall mythology of Battlestar Galactica. How I got that role was very unique and serendipitous. I was presenting an award at the Saturn Awards and I saw the creative team and a lot of the actors from Battlestar Galactica, and I don’t usually do it but I walked up to them and I said "I am the biggest fan of your show, in what you are able to do in space but making it a comment on our world today. What do we do when we have nothing left but each other and we are on the run? How closely does humanity work together then? It is so amazing." And two of them said "Jason Street? We are fans of Friday Night Lights." It was so odd to know that people who are in such a high concept science fiction show like Battlestar Galactica watch Friday Night Lights. Maybe for them, it was visa versa. At the heart of both shows, is people and how they interact with each other, whether it is in a small town or in outer space. We got that in each other.

A week later I got a call and they said "Look, we don’t have anything written for this character. We could tell you his basic arc but we would like to offer it to you." And I said "Of course!" So there was never an audition. It was weird. It wasn’t that I was drawn to the character specifically because we didn’t really know what he was yet. He was kind of nebulous. But the opportunity to work with the pedigree of people that created Battlestar Galactica was what drew me to it.

CinemaSpy: But then when did you realize that you would be the youngest husband in a group marriage with Polly Walker’s character, who also seems to be hooked on smoking something that looks a bit stronger than tobacco?

Scott Porter: Only when I got the script. I had no idea. I knew was going to be part of an organization that is responsible for the Cylons having consciousness and we are kind of the beginning of the end for humanity as we knew it. We are a bit of religious zealots. It is crazy to put yourself in those shoes but it was something I have never been afforded the luxury of playing before. He is definitely a character that has beliefs in something so deep and he is affected by it so much that he is willing to do great deeds of evil to get [things] done. It is a very cool character to play. I don’t want to spoil the plot too much but I think you kind of see the seeds of who the good guys are and who the bad guys are right off the bat. It is not about keeping secrets from the fans. It is more about describing how they got on a [space] ship 60 years from now, and that is a very cool reverse storytelling opportunity. I just want to tell good stories and this is one of the best. -- Cinema Spy

Aleks Paunovic cast as William Adama

Aleks Paunovic, who appeared in several episodes of Battlestar Galactica as Marine Sgt. Omar Fischer, has been cast as the grandfather of Edward James Olmos' William Adama, also named William, and father of Joseph Adama. He will be a recurring character, appearing only in flashbacks.

From his site:

Aleks has been cast in the recurring role of WILLIAM ADAMA in the television series CAPRICA. This character is the father of Joseph Adama (Esai Morales) and grand father of William Adama (Edward James Olmos). Aleks will appear as William Adama in flashback scenes.
