Caprica TV: Cast updates, videos & new interviews with Esai Morales, Sasha Roiz and Jane Espenson

A bunch of updates today, in random order:

Ron Moore, David Weddle and Bradley Thompson will be taking part in a Sci Fi Museum panel about "The Writing of BSG" in Seattle on September 5.

Presented in cooperation with EMP Museum, this panel discusses the writing of the award-winning drama. Notable writers/producers David Weddle and Bradley Thompson (Battlestar Galactica, CSI, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, Falling Skies) weigh in. -- Bumbershoot, via Battlestar blog

Fort McCoy with Eric Stoltz will be shown at the Rhode Island International Film Festival on August 11. Details & tickets here.

Brian Markinson will guest star on Rookie Blue in episode 2x08, "Monster," that airs on Thursday, August 11 at 10 pm on ABC. Synopsis, from the press release:

"Monster" - Division 15 is thrown into a panic when a seemingly drunk man that Gail and Traci brings in collapses from a mysterious illness and everyone is placed under a quarantine. Meanwhile, Andy and Swarek team to apprehend and book an unusual suspect in a brutal bank robbery - a man covered with blue dye. But will they uncover the identity of his violent partner? And as time ticks down, the squad grows increasingly nervous about the quarantine, with Gail worrying about her exposure to the sick man. Also, Dov's first date with a sexy bomb technician ends in a thrilling takedown.

Related - a couple of updates on Battlestar Galactica: Blood and Chrome: Comic News Insider talked to Lili Bordan in San Diego last week and she says that they (Syfy presumably) will be testing the pilot in October and that they were trying to get the guys who did the score for The Hurt Locker to do it for B&C. Another cast member, my boyfriend, Sasha Roiz (from the unfortunately short-lived Caprica) plays a police chief with a hidden agenda and says that, “we’re entering Jim and David’s world which gives us a fabulous foundation of imagination” in reference to a question about how the series seems to share some similarities with Angel. Both Sasha Roiz and Reggie were late additions to the supporting cast (and picked specifically by Greenwalt and Kouf for the on-screen juju) and were my personal favorites of the cast members to chat with. They were actually on their way to Portland the next day to begin shooting the remaining 12 episodes of the first season that NBC has ordered.

Another bright spot: Caprica's Sasha Roiz plays a recurring role, which is oddly similar to the recurring role he's playing on Warehouse 13 right now. And Roiz told us there's going to be a lot of layers of mystery around his character, and we may not find out who (or what) he really is for a while. Talking about fairy tales, Roiz told us:

"They do run the gamut of various oral lessons — everything from respecting your elders to being able to recognize veils and various deceits. They are great for kids but they work on a whole differnet level [for adults in the 21st century.]"

And according to this report, there is a slight chance that Grimm won't air on Fridays, but on Mondays, but only if the retooled pilot for The Playboy Club ends up sucking.

The gang is also set to attend a high school reunion which will bring back some former characters and also see guest appearance from Caprica's Sasha Roiz, as well as a dance number.

There are a couple of new behind-the-scenes clips on the FB page for 10,000 Days, with Peter Wingfield. One is about the visual effects and the other about camera and lighting.

Ten Year with Scott Porter will premiere at the Toronto Film Festival in September.

IndieWIRE has an interesting article about Jason Reitman's Young Adult, one of Patton Oswalt's new films, also starring Charlize Theron, and why it won't be doing the festival rounds before it gets released in theatres (December 9). Here is the synopsis, from THR:

The story follows a young adult author (Theron) who returns to her hometown in the hopes of reclaiming her happy youth -- and her now-married high school sweetheart (Wilson.). But her plan doesn't go so well, and she soon forms an unusual bond with another former classmate (Oswalt).

The third and final season of United States of Tara will be out on DVD in a few days (August 2). DVD Verdict has the review and list of special features.

Zak Santiago will make an appearance in Sanctuary 4x05, "Resistance." The show returns in October, so we won't see the episode until November.

Ryan will make another short film with the Granger Bros (who also made The Charlie Da Clown Show). Aleks Paunovic will also be in it. Here is the announcement (from FB):

Syfy has put out a press release for two Saturday night movies that will be premiering in August: Doomsday Prophecy with Hiro Kanagawa and Killer Mountain with Zak Santiago and starring BSG's Aaron Douglas and Paul Campbell.

In Doomsday Prophecy, premiering Saturday, August 13, at 9PM (ET/PT), a book editor (Buckley) and an archeologist (Staite) hunt down a mysterious author of prophetic novels. When the writer is found dead, the editor obtains a device enabling him to see the future – an impending geological nightmare that will tear apart the planet. Doomsday Prophecy is a production of Cinetel Films.

In Killer Mountain – inspired by an ancient Himalayan legend – premiering Saturday, August 27, at 9PM (ET/PT), a team of climbers (Douglas, Campbell) is sent to a forbidden mountain to rescue a missing expedition. There, they discover that the mountain is the secret location of Shangri La — protected by a bloodthirsty alien creature, the Druk. Killer Mountain is a production of ARO Entertainment.

Were you a fan of Torchwood or did you have to catch up?
"Both! I had watched the James Marsters episodes, cos he was Spike [on Buffy] and I had just started watching other episodes of it, and then I got the call. Then I watched everything, and wondered why I wasn't watching everything from the beginning. It's amazing, it's the best."

What was most exciting about writing in the Torchwood world?
"The hugeness of it. The enormity of this story. We're actual saying, 'This isn't an event that affects [just] our characters, this is an event that affects our characters and everyone else'. That's huge. Normally you have characters moving through the world in a certain way. Now you have characters moving through the world, and the world is [also] moving! You're on a conveyor belt that's on top of a train - it's moving fast, and then you're moving faster on top of it. It's very complicated! But that was so much fun - the complexity of it [and] the 'bigness' of the ideas." (...)

You've written for so many great shows - will you be launching your own series?
"Yes, I'm writing a web-series called Husbands that is my own. I financed it from my own pocket [and it's] my own idea. I've got a co-writer but [it's] my first project that I really feel is mine from the ground up. It's got no genre element, unless gay marriage is genre! Wait, here's the science-fiction aspect - Zoe from Caprica (actress Alessandra Torresani) is one of the stars."
